Day One of Skiing

So here is the trauma that occurred on our first evening at Dan & Liz's house. They had just left for their friends house to sleep for the night, Jake was back in their bedroom talking to his dad & Gracie decided to go back & visit him. She turns off the light, trips over my suitcase on her way over to Jake & hits her head on the corner of the nightstand. Needless to say, there is alot of screaming and blood as Jake carries her out. We managed to control the bleeding but ended up taking her to the ER for some steri-strips. She fell asleep during this process and the strips did the job beautifully. All this started at about 9:30pm and we got back from the hospital around midnight. I am thankful to both Dan & Liz for coming back so quickly. Between Jim & I, we both felt sick to our stomachs- mine from all the blood & Jim from rushing up from sleeping in the chair. A very long and emotional day for all. We were concerned about her going skiing the next day and also how the goggles would press up against her face all day. She was a trooper, insisting on going and couldn't care less about those goggles. We ended up placing a larger bandage over the strips so the goggles wouldn't rub against them. These photos were taken Saturday, after her two days of non-stop fun.

Here are a few photos of everyone (except Jim of course) getting the basic run-down of skiing. Gracie got in a few snow angels before really getting started. We were so fortunate on this day- there wasn't anyone else taking lessons, so we all got a private lesson.

Here she is acclimating to one ski

Celia & Jake. If it looks like C isn't having fun, it's because she wasn't. She had taken a couple hard falls and didn't want anything to do with snowboarding. She kept at it though & by the end of the day- she was done and wasn't sure how she felt about it.

Here are C & Jake- absorbing like sponges...

Here I am taking the "magic carpet ride" up to the learning slope and later getting some more basics on the larger slope.

Here, Gracie has graduated to the top of the larger slope...

Making her way down for the first time

A photo of Gracie on the chair lift which she rode many times over the duration of the two days. By the end of the day, she was screamin' down that slope. Took her share of spills but she kept going.

Here we are- all smiles. Her instructor, Brook in the background.

Looks like Timber is exhausted for her. Such love.
